Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of children’s self-esteem. This subject is important in the pedagogy of giftedness, because the way of thinking about oneself, assessing one’s own abilities is important in shaping educational and life achievements. The aim of the research was to determine the differences in the self-esteem of talented chess players and their peers, as well as a comparison of those features that were considered important for achieving success in chess. The research revealed differences in the level of self-esteem of the respondents-significantly more talented chess players present positive self-esteem, in addition, its mean intensity is significantly higher in this group. The self-esteem of chess players is less often not formed, which may indicate greater maturity in comparison with their peers. In addition, talented chess players declare a greater willingness to compete.
