Summary/Abstract: Through its justice policies, the European Union encourages Member States to increase the efficiency of their legal systems and to implement judicial reforms that meet citizens' interests and needs. The European Union supports the use of mediation as a fast and cheaper method than legal actions. In Romania, the mediation is considered to be an activity of public interest, the judiciary and arbitral bodies having the obligation to recommend the settlement through this procedure of the disputes involving the parties.
