Summary/Abstract: Containers have significantly contributed to the improvement of the transport process and the handling of transported goods. Along with the increase in global trade and the development of containerization technology, first concepts of foldable containers appeared. Initial solutions, however, seemed to be too expensive and not very functional in comparison with standard containers, and therefore they did not enter into mass use in global supply chains. Staxxon has patented some interesting solutions in the field of foldable containers over the last years, which allows to assume that the foldable container they created can become an attractive and competitive alternative to standard containers and popularize the concept of foldable containers in general. There is a great chance for sea and rail transport, especially on routes between Europe and Asia, where there are large disparities in the volume of freight carried in both directions, and the problem of empty containers is a big challenge.
