Summary/Abstract: The working way of life of masons in the Central Rhodopes as part of their social life directly linked with production forms the subject of this research. In the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century their working way of life had specific features which were determined chiefly by the nature of their work in the trade and the mobile form of work, which entailed leaving their homes to exercise their trade in distant places. Specific features of the working way of life of the masons were researched: the forms of organization of labour [(cheta, taifa) (group)], the conditions of life, characteristic production habits, their professional language and the stable norms of conduct in the cheti and taifi (groups). The role of the guilds in preserving the norms established by custom and rule in production work and the moral relationships in the professional groups are emphasized.
