Socialism and Modernisation, Reflected in Life Stories

Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to bring into scientific circulation a group of life stories, collected during field work among the Bulgarian diaspora in the Ukraine between 1997—2001. They are a part of family and community memory about the history of the USSR that usually runs to a sideback from the written history of the time. The attitude to the socialist reforms is described and analyzed in the framework of the institutional and traditional background, designing the social structure and culture of Bulgarian population in Moldova and Ukraine.
