Summary/Abstract: The assertion of Arad at the beginning of the 20th century as the most important political center of the Transylvanian Romanians determined an important part of the Romanian elite to activate here, represented by lawyers like Ștefan Cicio-Pop or Ioan Suciu, teachers like Vasile Goldiș, Sabin Evuțianu or Teodor Botiș and clergymen such as Roman Ciorogariu, Gheorghe Ciuhandu and Bishop Ioan I. Papp. An important role was played by Arad in the autumn of 1918, being the place where the Great Union was decided and prepared. The leaders from Arad, Vasile Goldiș, Stefan Cicio-Pop and Ioan Suciu, were the ones who got involved in organizing the negotiations with the representatives of the Hungarian government and National Council. In Arad, the leader‑ship of the Central Romanian National Council decided to convene the Grand National Assembly in Alba-Iulia, where the Romanians would decide on the Union. At the proposal of Iuliu Maniu, the organizer of the assembly was named Ioan Suciu. The proceedings of the National Assembly in Alba Iulia were opened by Ștefan Cicio-Pop, as president of the Central Romanian National Council, while Vasile Goldiș read the Great Union Resolution, a document proclaiming the Union of Transylvania
