Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the consequences of removing the provisions of Chapter IX of the Polish Criminal Code concerning the aggregate penalty. In the author’s opinion, it is wrong to assume that the aggregate penalty and the sequence of crimes are institutions that improve the legal situation of a perpetrator. In fact (de lege lata) they often lead to the opposite effect. The author also questions the validity of accepting that the abovementioned change will lead to a decrease in the crime rate.
