Scary novel of Gombrowicz

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents short story of The possessed which is forgotten piece of Witold Gombrowicz written in 1939. The author of this paper tries to understand the causes why Gombrowicz decided to write a novel for the masses, more over for a few years he was dreaming about writing a good “bad novel”. The author of this paper concentrates especially on two aspects of narration where seriousness and mysteriousness alternate with humor and irony. She compares the descriptions of nature and heroes with the same parts of gothic novels. She descripes gothic novels authors’ tricks and procedures to show what Gombrowicz does if he want to scary the reader. The author of this paper also presents the way how Gombrowicz parodies gothic convention.
