Summary/Abstract: In the past, watermills were an important element of the Warta landscape. Currently, unused and abandoned, they are disappearing quickly. At present, only two watermills with the tradition dating back to the late Middle Ages – in Kochłów and Konopnica, remained on the Warta river. The watermill in Konopnica became the inspiration for this article. The first information about the mills in the Wieluń region on the Warta river comes from the beginning of the 15th century. In the middle 16th century, according to A. Pawiński’s records, over the Warta river and its tributaries were locaded at least 16 watermills in Rychłocice Duże (Wielkie), Konopnica, Osjaków, Walków, Radoszewice, Drobnice, Raduczyce, Lipnik, Kochłów, Kamion, Mierzyce, Przewóz, Bobrowniki, Działoszyn, Trębaczów and Niwiski. From previous sources were also known watermills in: Rychłocice Małe and Nowa Wieś (Osjakowska Wola), not mentioned in the records from the mid-16th century.
