Summary/Abstract: Abstract. The political, institutional and administrative architecture of Serbia remains one of the most controversial topics on the Serbian government’s agenda 13 years after the fall of Slobodan Milošević. Demands for a solution to these problems are growing, in particular in the context of Serbia’s rapprochement with the EU. The Preševo Valley, a predominantly Albanian populated region in the south of Serbia, has gained in strategic importance for Serbia as well as Kosovo since Kosovo’s independence in 2008. The analysis of the situation in the Preševo Valley, both current and in connection with intervention by NATO, armed resistance, subsequent eff orts by the Serbian Government to reverse any discriminatory measures, and confl icting future concepts regarding the status of the region shows that South Serbia is increasingly becoming a neuralgic crisis point in view of the complex issue of Albania in the Balkans. It is also proving to be a signifi cant political and territorial factor as far as further developments of the relations and delineation between Serbia and Kosovo and the sustainability of peace and stability in the wider region are concerned.
