Summary/Abstract: The city of Aleppo, often heard about nowadays due to the Syrian Civil War, was in ineraction with the Eastern Mediterranean- Anatolia- Arabian Peninsula-Egypt-Iran geographies throughout the history due to its strategic location. This location determined its economic status as well as its political fate. The struggle of the states, which were active in the region, directly affected the commercial and economic situation of the city. The Islamic-Byzantine struggles, the attempts of the Fatimids to domanite the region, and the struggles of the local Arab Emirates negatively affected the commercial and economic situation of Aleppo in Middle Ages. As a result of the Syrian expedition of the Seljuk Sultan Melikshah, the city, dominated by the Turkish, regained its commercial potential especially thanks to the measures taken by the first Seljuk Governer Kasımu’d-devle Ak Sungur. Although it was negatively affected by the Crusades in this aspect, The Seljuk domination period emerged as e period when the commercial life of the city revived and as a result, the city’s economic and physical structure enhanced.
