Summary/Abstract: From the seventeenth century onward, when Warsaw’s Royal Castle became the main seat of successive Polish kings, the Augustinian Church of St Martin was a venue not only for the quite intense musical activities of the Austin Friars themselves and of musicians whom they hired, but also for performances by the royal ensemble. The royal musicians who belonged to the Order of Saint Augustine were lodged in the monastery itself. Despite enormous losses related to the 1864 dissolution of the monastery by the Russian invaders following the January Uprising, some of the handwritten materials concerning its history, as well as the documents of the Polish Augustinian province, have been preserved (albeit dispersed) and may provide musicologists with precious, hitherto unresearched sources of knowledge on this subject. The first part of this article is devoted to music and musicians at St Martin’s. Subsequent sections present hitherto unknown details from the biographies of royal musicians: Asprilio Pacelli, Marcin Mielczewski, Bartłomiej Pękiel, Adeodat Barochius and Alfonso Selvatici.
