Summary/Abstract: The article describes the activity of the episcopal printing house thatwas carried out in the two workshops from Claudiopolis and Alba Carolina and spanned 15 years, authors and printed books, but also new data on typographic projects completed or failed by the bishop Ignác Batthyány. All reported to his older project of creating a scientific society in Transylvania. The conclusions emphasise the role and place of the printing house in the production of local and European book, which were also determined by the competence of the bishop, himself author and editor, codicology and text expert; similarly, everything was determined by his macro-economic vision and materialized in patronage projects, the most important being the Institutum Batthyanianum.
