Summary/Abstract: In the archive of the parish of Wolsztyn there is a bound collection of documents with the catalogue number Zg. 53/41 nr 227 containing The Records of church documents (1755-1820). These records include a seven-page manuscript entitled Modus in ordinem redigendi documenta et alia scripta Ecclesiae. The manuscript was written by the provost of Wolsztyn, the Rev. Canon Franciszek Bębnowski after 1806. The two first pages contain the pattern-issued probably by the church authorities- for making a register of the parish documents. The further pages show how these instructions were followed as far as the archive in Wolsztyn was concerned. The register mentions plenty of documents which have not survived till now. It contains a particularly valuable information about no longer existing baptismal register (liber baptisatorum) from the years 1630 – 1699, which was in possession of a parish priest. The author of the manuscript used this register and the later ones to establish the names and surnames of the priests who worked in the parish; he also noted down several significant events from parish life, social life (e.g. the news about burning women suspected of witchcraft) or economic life in the years 1630-1784. In this way the Rev. Franciszek Bębnowski not only gave the register of archive records, but also created something like a parish chronicle of the 17th and 18th centuries.
