Summary/Abstract: When viewing the church sources of the past ages, the researcher comes across many times-often quite by chance-the more or less concise entries concerning important events from the biography of once important figures of the Church, and these facts and dates determine the important moments in the history of individual dioceses, religious communities and other church institutions. These entries can also appear in the records where we would not expect their presence, hence if the person who conducts archival research does not make an effort to find them and to publish them, they can remain unknown to a wider audience of historians, even for a long time. It is no use issuing separate individual records. On the other hand, it is impossible to prepare a complete edition of these kinds of sources which are scattered throughout the unknown number of codes and files in dozens (or even hundreds) of archives. One way, indirect one, to organize these documents is to classify them-as the researchers find them during the archival research-according the subject matter and to publish them successively in this particular form. In this way these ephemeral testimonies can be available to the historians who will study the history of the Church in Poland. The notes (in the broad sense of this term), which were used in this article come from various sources and they refer to a clearly defined and quite numerous group of people, namely the Polish bishops and abbots from the period of the Old Poland.
