Summary/Abstract: The Romanian Ministry of Education’s incoherence in applying the Common European Framework of Reference to the National Curricula designed for foreign languages has led to various inconsistencies. This paper aims to reconstruct the process that the Ministry’s representatives should have followed in establishing the Standards of performance in foreign languages for the 8th grade. The key issue that seems to lie at the basis of such assessment procedures is the relationship between the task-type/structure and the skills and strategies that learners must make use of while solving such tasks.
