Summary/Abstract: The second half of the 19th century is characterized not only by the deepening of antagonisms within the Ottoman Empire, but also by the direct involvement of Tsarist Russia in the process of accelerating the dissolution of this empire, with heterogeneous ethnic and multi-confessional composition. Of course, the first secessionist areas in the process of secession were the Balkan part of the Ottoman Empire. Whereas the Albanians, being largely Islamized, would be at the center of this crisis, being overlooked as a separate nation and as a consequence, its ethnic space would be divided among the new political entities in the Balkans.
