Summary/Abstract: After a short history of foreign travelers to Romania and their remarks on flora and fauna, there are mentioned some Romanian people who explored nature and people behaviours from other coun‑ tries, Africa being of a major interest. Dimitrie Ghica‑Comăneşti and his son Nicolae explored Somalia between 22 of October 1895 – 22 February 1896. Both trophies of some game species (more than 200 birds and mammals) as well as 55 plant species collected, together with meteorological information (atmospheric pressure, air temperature, wind speed), geographic descriptions and research are enough reasons to consider those expedition – the first one with important scientific results. Some plant species descriebed at those time have a valid statute today, after almost 120 years. Also, geographic results are recognized by international authorities, one example being the Carthographic Institute from Gotha – Germany. These scientific results are mentioned in two published books in Romanian and in French languages, in 1897, respectively 1898. Both books are as diary of expedition but also as ethnographic treaties, close to the above mentioned scientific results.
