The foundation, in 1951, of the State Archives branches in the districts of Oraviţa and Caransebeş, comes after a century from the foundation of the State Archives from Moldova and from Ţara Românească and after more than a decade from the foundation of the Regional Branch of the State Archives from Timişoara. This situation had an important impact on the archival material preserved at Caraş Severin County Department of the National Archives, where the oldest documents kept are from the 18th century.
