Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the Lithuanian terms, the constituents of which are joined by alternative conjunctions ir (ar/arba) “and/orˮ. The research material was taken from the National Term Bank of Lithuania (the Term Bank of the Republic of Lithuania), which had 199 terms of this type. The article is aimed at determining the features of the formal structure of the terms with coordinate constituents joined by alternative conjunctions ir (ar/arba), the semantic relations between these constituents and discussing the terminological value of such terms. Alternative coordinating (copulative and disjunctive) conjunctions are more likely to join subordinate term constituents than the main ones, and the latter always have a common dependent constituent. The coordinate constituents, according to their semantic relations, are predominantly co-hyponyms, however, some have hierarchical hyperonymic or quite close to it, as well as, partonymic or other ontological (associative) semantic relations. Consequently, coordinate words or phrases are not necessarily semantically equivalent.
