Summary/Abstract: In our discussions with neo-Protestants, it is quite important to make the difference between the Tradition of the Church which has its roots in the Primary Church and, on the other hand, plain local traditions which, most of the time, don’t contain anything Christian about them. TraditionalChristian teachings are those teachings that - even though they are not clearly described in the Scripture (as neo-Protestants would wish) -, are confirmed by the practice of early Christians after the death of the apostles. What conveys full authority to these teachings is precisely their practice from the very beginnings and everywhere throughout the Primary Christian Church, while local traditions - though present in the lives of believers and often overlooked by certain church servants - do not belongto the Church, thus having no value for salvation. My statement relies on the fact that, most of the testimonies of neo-Protestants who have converted to Orthodoxy are based on their thorough understanding of the Church of Christ, i.e. on the study of the life within the Primary Churchwhich, implicitly, forms the Tradition of the Church (1st – 4th centuries). I myself ca n confirm this, due to various discussions I’ve ha d with neo - Protestant people during the catechumenate periods; having managed to turn aside the veil of the traditions, their willingness to know more about the beauty of Orthodox teachings opened up.
