Using qualitative research in identifying regional smart specializations

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the research findings connected with the attempt to identify the so called ”smart specialisation” of Opole Voivodeship. The proposed research methodology draws upon two distinct approaches: the expert approach and the documentary approach. The nature of the research validates the view that the multiple experts’ assessment has been applied. It is worth emphasizing that the research results have been used in the preparation of the documents fundamental to the development of the region, i.e. Opole Voivodeship Development Strategy by 2020, as well as The Regional Strategy for the Innovation of Opole Voivodeship.
