Summary/Abstract: The past century for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe is not only the age of systemic transformation, but also the age of codification. The aim of the article is to show similar problems regarding the national codification of private law in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and later Yugoslavia (then after the break up of Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro), Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic and Slovakia), Hungary and Poland, and Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
