Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research was to analyze the level of pupils' ideas about ecosystem of the meadow discussed in textbooks of biology before schol reform in Slovakia (year: 2004/2005) and compare to the ecosystem approach of science education at present (year: 2017/2018). When comparing pupils ideas about ecosystem, projective techniques were used in the research groups (712 respondents), using a high-reliability pupil drawing method (Cronbach'salpha 0.7047). In general, we can find a low level of acquired species nomenclature of animals of the meadow ecosystem, with pre-reform time of pupils on average more successful (25%) than at present (21%). In our findings we have a very low understanding of food relations in the ecosystem (5-10%) among pupils of primary school compared to the pre-reform period (61%). According to the present results on ecosystems in the current school system were commend in the future to integrate into the classic teaching of the elements of non-formal science education on the characteristics of the meadow ecosystems in the context of the natural environment directly on the schoolland in the primary school.
