Summary/Abstract: The article depicts so far not seen in the literature subject the issue of analysing the problems of modern Polish teachers as working poor, which is about the people who despite being employed are still becoming poor. The author by analyzing the poverty of Polish teachers refers to her own thoughts and experience, the literature subject, research conducted by her and mainly to the published data and reports. The specificity of a teacher’s occupation, difficulties and dilemmas appearing in every day work at school, the problem of social and economic poverty regarding to both the professional position of a teacher and to the prestige of a teacher’s work usually in awkward work conditions and being under permanent control is presented in the article. The major message of the article is the fact that a modern teacher’s work is often fight for existence, survival and constant taking attempts of keeping satisfying occupational status in permanently changing political and economic conditions and increasing social expectations
