Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is a quantitative analysis of country names and nationalities in four textbooks for teaching Polish as a foreign language at A1 level. The books were published in Poland between 2006 and 2013. In the text, based on the method of dividing countries into inner/expanding circles, the author categorizes countries into three groups: culturally and didactically significant, culturally significant, and incidental. The most frequent countries in the textbooks are the following: Poland (the inner circle), USA, Germany, Great Britain (England), Spain, France, Italy, Russia and Japan (the expanding circle). The research has also shown that the percentage use of all expanded countries in textbooks fluctuates between 70 and 80% of all country names. Moreover, the most frequent country names in Polish textbooks almost correspond with the model Poland + G8. This model does not pay attention to the neighbors of Poland or the countries of origin of those people who learn Polish as a foreign language. The names of nationalities are significant elements only in two of the analyzed textbooks. In terms of variety and frequency of use, names of nationalities are suggestively different than the names of the countries. In the textbooks for teaching Polish as a foreign language, almost all ethnonyms are culturally and didactically significant.
