Summary/Abstract: In recent years we have seen the Internet become an inherent part of our lives, not only as a source of information, but also as a means of communication that allows us to replace traditional correspondence with new ways of communication, such as email, instant messaging, chat, and also weblogs. The Internet influences not only the way of communication, but also the language we use in this virtual environment. We are aware of the importance of mastering foreign languages in the knowledge-based economy, and the intensive development of information technology may help learners to master them. In the paper we focus on using weblogs in teaching, and their influence on improving writing skills. The Weblog is an appropriate complement to traditional teaching in the classroom because this medium is based mainly on texts and provides students with the opportunity to write posts, publish them, read them and archive them. It is a tool facilitating teaching writing in the ESL (English as a second language) classroom.
