„Lost in Translation”, or What Lies Between the Words Covered With the Patina of History

Summary/Abstract: Review of the book by Agata Hołobut and Monika Woźniak, "Historia na ekranie. Gatunek filmowy a przekład audiowizualny" ["History on the screen. Film genre and audiovisual translation"] (2018). The authors study the impact of historical film on the specificity of audiovisual translation, analysing English-language (British and American) dialogue lists of selected feature films and historical series as well as their available Polish and Italian translations (dubbing, recorded audio commentaries, subtitles). The book successfully combines linguistic, film and stylometric analysis tools.
