Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the theme of the survival of the Jesuit order inthe territory of Tsarist Russia after the papal suppression of 1773.Based on manuscript sources preserved in the ecclesiastical archivesof Rome and Krakow, but also in relation to the published literatureon the subject, the text offers a systematic and synthetic look at thereasons that led the various heroes of these events—from the religious figures to Catherine II—to support the survival of the order inRussia. In particular, the article examines and illustrates the communication strategies used by the Jesuits and their diversification according totheir recipients; moreover, it proposes a reflection on the ways in whichthe sons of St. Ignatius tried to maintain and secure their own identity,for example at the educational level.
