Summary/Abstract: Pop music not only has a positive effect on the motivation and mood of the learners, but it can also develop different skills in foreign language teaching. This article focuses on the role of pop music in the teaching process and the potential uses of pop songs. Besides developing receptive and productive skills, vocabulary can also be conveyed through music texts. The lyrics have a variety of functions: new words can be introduced, word formation patterns can be illustrated and phrases can be easier memorized. In the theoretical part of the paper, attention is focused on various aspects, such as the motivation of the topic choice, the function of pop music in classes of German, and criteria for song selection. The practical part of the article proposes some lexical exercises based on a pop song to help learners improve their German language skills in a pleasant and relaxing manner.
