Summary/Abstract: The keynote speaker discusses the role that the European Court of Human Rights had and is having in the process of recognition the same-sex unions in the national legislations. The examined Court’s practice shows the evolution of its opinions and attitudes and its impact only recently, when the Court starts to oblige national legislators to regulate registered partnerships and to recognize the rights and duties of registered partners. The analysis of decisions on the (non)finding a violation of certain Convention’s rights of same-sex oriented persons and same-sex couples served as a basis for determining the Court’s views on some relevant issues, as well as the drowing of conclusion on possible or expected future Court decisions in this area in the cases originated in the applications against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
