Summary/Abstract: A member of the Romanian Academy almost forgotten today was doctor Pavel Vasici Ungureanu from Timişoara, one of the pioneers of Romanian medical dietetics, a convinced Darwinist, a follower of the theory of evolutionism and preventive medicine. During his life fulfilled with unexpected and spectacular events, he worked and lived for two years in Alba Iulia, integrating well into the social and cultural life of the city and actively participating in the cultural life of the Romanian students here. Pavel Vasici also had an essential merit in the history of the Transylvanian press, being the first doctor after Ioan Molnar Piuariu, who has achieved a respectable fame in this field as well. If Molnar repeatedly tried to establish a press in the national language, Pavel Vasici was the one who initiated and supported the appearance of the first Romanian medical sheet in Transylvania, “Hygiene and the School”, redeemed between 1876–1870.
