Summary/Abstract: Different approaches to intelligence during the Cold War and contemporary intelligence come both from different characteristics in activity, and from various changes in the international environment. The new (kind of) intelligence is nothing but the effect of these changes and it faithfully reflects the states' capacity to adapt and develop in an external environment characterized by uncertainty. This essay reviews some of the problems intelligence services have to face both at a theoretical-doctrinal level and at a practical level. I consider these problems to be only a part of the effects triggered by the changes in the organization and functioning of the international system.
