Who removed Stalin’s moustache? A leftist critique of socialism and post-socialist cultural studies

Summary/Abstract: The author describes the Praxis philosophy as a theoretical medium which embodies aspects of high and popular culture of the 1960s in Croatia and former Yugoslavia. In the first part of the paper he describes lack of references to praxis in newer contributions to the ethnography of socialism and cultural studies as a symptom of scientific reductivism, which is based on devaluation of critical culture in the general modernist milieu of socialism. In the second part the author presents certain arguments for relevance of philosophy in general, and particularly of praxis as a (meta-)cultural form.
