Summary/Abstract: A little recognized to date collection of letters of the renowned Poznań bookseller and editor Jan Konstanty Żupański to Józef Ignacy Kraszewski preserved In the Jagiellonian Library canvaluably complement the story of an excellent book by the eminent Polish-Livonian historian, Baron Gustaw Manteuffel (1832–1916). In 1869, Manteuffel published in Riga a book Polnisch Livland [Polish Livonia], which came to interest Polish readers, including Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. The famous novelist encouraged the Polish‑L ivonian author to publish his work also in Polish.This correspondence, related in part to preparing Polish publication (Inflanty Polskie, Poznań 1879) brings a lot of interesting details, most importantly concerning its editorial form and technical questions involved, including that of making prints for Manteuffel’s work by graphic artists from Leipzig. The letters indicate also the changing attitude of the Poznań bookseller tothe planned publishing project.
