Summary/Abstract: During the past decades in public discourse in Bosnia and Herzegovina there is increasingly talk about European Islam, Bosnian Islam and Islamic tradition of Bosniaks. Besides to other theorists, the contribution to the contextualization of these terms was given by late Alija Izetbegović, who saw the paradigm of a desirable Muslim who received Islam from the East, and from the West universal humanistic values.On the other hand, certain aspects of Islamic tradition of Bosniaks, as Dr. Fikret Karčić has defined it in his work, for Alija Izetbegović, they were solid dam from the growing waves of radical interpretation of Islam that have come in Bosnia and Herzegovina after democratic changes in the early 1990s to the present. In the paper it will be presented Alija Izetbegovic's basic thoughts about European Islam, Bosnian Islam and some aspects of the Islamic tradition of Bosniaks, based on published works, speeches and interviews.
