Summary/Abstract: Muslims in BiH are part of a large community of Slavic peoples. Religion of their ancestors is an important part of their spirituality, since it has survived despite the presence of Christianity and Islam, and its modernday manifestation is in form of popular beliefs and customs. This paper presents and analyses the most frequent popular beliefs among Bosniacs, in order to discover their old Slavonic origin. Muslims in BiH often believe in the astral double and the threshold light. Since childhood, the elderly teach the young about what is right and what is wrong in order to live a happy life. Witches, fairies, Doom and apparitions are among the common beliefs. Weather is also often told on the basis of animal behaviour, and future is told on the basis of natural events. Liquid led poured into water is a traditional cure. Fortune and happiness are secured by a sacrifice on the foundations of a new home, and the evil eye is present as much as in the ancient times.
