Summary/Abstract: To a large extent, studying consists in independent work of the learner and experiencing the autonomy of students, expressed in the responsibility for their development, the choices made, the quality of learning and its effects. Undoubtedly, scientific circles are the dominant form occurring within the student scientific movement. In terms of undertaken tasks, they are basically not limited, they are created endogenously, on the initiative of the students themselves, sometimes from the passion of academic teachers who are looking for allies among students. On the example of the activity of the Student Social Work Association Empowerment from the Institute of Pedagogy of the University of Szczecin, I will analyze the experience of autonomy understood as independence related to the right to self-determination and selfdetermination of internal affairs, as well as the creation of an external collective with all its consequences.
