Summary/Abstract: The article presents the directions of research on the area of non-formal education of adults run in Germany. Its popularity as a research area has not de- creased since the 1970s, despite a clear increase in the interest of researchers in the phenomenon of learning outside institutions. In the area of research on non-formal adult education, one can distinguish several separate trends: research on teaching – learning processes in institutions, over courses, research on the functioning of institu- tions and organizations, over professions and programs, and research on addressees, participants and target groups. The author of the article focuses primarily on research on programs of educational institutions, because this area of research does not take up an important place in Polish adult education.
