Protection of the Monuments as a Task and a Challenge for Local Communities

Summary/Abstract: A role of an individual and a local community in shaping safety is more and more commonly discussed. Actions regarding culture undertaken by the community are particularly important as the local community should be a depositary of values and traditions, as well as a guardian of material and non-material heritage of their ancestors. This paper tries to determine what activities in the field of cultural security can be undertaken by an individual and by a local community. Due to a wide scope of issues, the article is limited to a topic of monuments protection. Presented examples refer to actions taken by local government authorities and local communities in the Łódź voivodeship area.
