Summary/Abstract: Nepotism is considered one of the most important pathologies of professional and social life. This concept cannot, however, be used to describe the personnel policy carried out in family businesses. They usually employ immediate family members. Succession of the company to one of the family members is also planned as part of a forward–looking strategy. For this reason, in the case of family businesses, scholars do not speak about nepotism but about (amoral) familism. The most important positive aspects of family members working in one company usually include: trust, costs reduction, keeping capital in the hands of family and employment of competent persons. On the other hand, penetration of professional and family life, reduced confidence among the remaining staff, hiring incompetent family members, difficulties in the verification of the assigned tasks and unfair competition in the labour market are also pointed out.
