Summary/Abstract: The paper is a commentary to Steven Weinberg’s book Dreams of a Final Theory. After a short presentation of the arguments, the idea is put forward that Weinberg discusses an archaic epistemological problem. Philosophers and logicians have offered simple and elegant solutions for it. The contribution of physics in the general elucidation of the problem for the final theory is summarized.
