Entrepreneurship in Developing Countries – the Case of China

Summary/Abstract: Entrepreneurship is an important determinant of socio-economic development. Attitudes and business initiatives allow to build a strong business sector which generates value added in the economy and creates its competitive position in the world. The article has two main objectives. The first is to verify the hypothesis of the decreasing rate of entrepreneurship measured by the TEA with the level of development measured by the value of GDP per capita. The second is to assess the level of entrepreneurship in China – the largest developing economy at world. The assessment, the main determinants and barriers to development of entrepreneurship in China were pointed out, based i.e. on the results of the study “Enterprise Survey,” by the World Bank. In conclusion, the current government’s stance towards the development of entrepreneurship in the country was described. This article is mainly based on an analysis of statistical data and analysis of the literature.
