Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to identify the relationship between a sense of happiness and the level of affluence of residents in the EU. The analysis carried out in 2006–2016 shows that the increase in the level of household wealth has decelerated, while the sense of happiness among EU residents has decreased. Among the factors affecting the sense of happiness, affluence is an important determinant, although not the only one. The correlation between a sense of happiness and a change in the wealth of residents in the EU does not show in any case an exact linear relationship. There are deviations in this aspect. This means that residents of less prosperous countries in the EU can be happier than those living in wealthier countries in the EU and viceversa. Although generally it can be assumed that the wealthier turn out to be happier than the poorer, higher wealth does not always translate into a higher sense of happiness.
