The role of Folk Art Centers in formation of national culture (based on the example of events concerning the Day of Independence of Ukraine)

Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Article. The aim of the work is to carry out a cultural analysis of the activities of the Centers of Folklore (CoF) as state institutions, to consider the peculiarities of their work, to identify the main areas of functioning and to determine their role in shaping the national culture of Ukraine as well as to highlight the theoretical and methodological grounds for celebrating the Independence Day of Ukraine in regions (based on the example of events organized by the centers of Folk Art). The methodology of the study applies the general principles of scientific knowledge which correspond to contemporary cultural science discourse. The mentioned strategy led to the use of such research methods: system-analytic – for the study of philosophical, cultural, literary literature on the chosen problem; system-structural – with a view to in-depth research of the role of Centers of Folk Art in the formation of the national culture of Ukraine; formal and comparative methods – to analyze the influence of the work of the Centers of Folk Art on the formation of national culture. The scientific novelty of the work is based on the fact that a new epistemological approach was firstly applied to the study of the Centers of Folk Art activities, which, as state institutions, are still beyond the attention of contemporary scholars, justifies their role in shaping the national culture of Ukraine and influence the everyday formation of national culture through the prism of events which have been dedicated to the celebration of the Independence Day of Ukraine. Conclusions. On the basis of profound scientific analysis of the relevant sources, a number of existing problems are outlined and the relevance of the research topic raised in terms of the article. On the basis of the conducted cultural research of the Centers of Folk Art as state institutions, the peculiarities of their work were revealed, the theoretical and methodological basis for celebrating the Independence Day of Ukraine in the regions was highlighted (by the example of events organized by the Centers of Folk Art till August 24). The main directions of the functioning of the institutions under consideration are outlined, their essential role in the everyday formation of the national culture of Ukraine are described.
