Summary/Abstract: Research effort should always begin with an explanation of the ontological status of an object that we are interested in. Each research should start from the ontological questions: whether the object of our interest really exists, and how it exists? Then a researcher can go next step to the epistemology which can help to determine the best research methods and tools. The article presents several possibilities of the ontological status of social responsibility of an organization and outlines methods and research tools that are possible to apply. In addition, the purpose of the article is to perform a qualitative content analysis of articles from one of the studies devoted to CSR in order to check how often their authors follow the described rigour of scientific approach.
