Summary/Abstract: The article presents basic inspirations, beginnings and development of the anthropology of the senses and sensory ethnography. The main aim is to show the most influential scholars who have had a significant impact on the anthropological debate regarding human sensuality and perception and its connections with culture. The authors discuss general possibilities of this kind of reflection within cultural and social anthropology, as well as the fundamental differences between scholars undertaking such research.
