Summary/Abstract: During World War I, almost all the nationalities of the Russian Empire were mobilized to the front. The government also sent Germans ethnics to the army. One of the largest and most compact communities of German diaspora lived at that time in the province of Bessarabia. This paper undertakes the analysis of the process of mobilizing Bessarabian Germans, based on archival documents. The author examines how service was conducted for Russian Germans, and reveals, as a piece of novelty, the number of the Germans from Bessarabia mobilized during World War I to fight for Russia.
