Summary/Abstract: The result of the trauma related to experiencing domestic violence may be, except many of the negative effects, also positive changes comprising posttraumatic growth. The study attempted to investigate the extent to which children and their mothers experiencing domestic violence occur posttraumatic growth and whether the occurrence of positive changes in mothers reinforces similar changes in their children. The study involved 53 pairs (mother and child) who have experienced violence from the same person (father, husband/partner). Two tools were used in the study: Personal Growth Questionnaire to measure positive changes in children and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory to assess these changes in women. The results of the study revealed that children who experienced domestic violence are more likely to benefit from trauma than their mothers. Positive changes occurring in mothers, particularly in self-perception, favor the posttraumatic growth in their children.
