Summary/Abstract: The paper refers to the role of the state and other organizations in governance of the regional tourist product at Bieszczady region from 1952 to 2014. Between 1952 and 1989 the state was the only actor creating and managing tourism in the region (top-down approach). In this period the aims of sustainable development were achieved. From 1990 to 2014 the regional governance were handled over to public-private partnership organizations. The elements of regional tourist product like accommodation, gastronomy, attractions were mostly created by private entrepreneurs. Also in this period the aims of sustainability were achieved by actions and regulations undertaken by public organizations.
